Do you like the new Colorado/Canyon? Want to know what the 2.8 duramax diesel is going to be like? Wish you could get all that as an SUV? Lobby Chevy for the international trailblazer.
Andrew St. Pierre white is a British overland adventurer living in South Africa with 20 plus years of overland travel experience producing a show for that market as well as the owner of a new line of outfitters for that task. To sum up his review? In short he loves it, and frankly I do to. His reviews are typically British, dry and factual while still being interesting somehow but he has a very practical approach that I like. It looks great, its got the right engine, its a very well engineered product and if the reviews that are coming out of the canyorado are any indication it would be a killer competitor to the 4runner. Who's with me? Who wants a new trailblazer?

I'd kill for a new Trailblazer. Slap the American-ized front end on that bad boy and send it over here!

For reals, what a cool vehicle to continue to bring the fight against Toyota.

FYI Toyota Fortuna is a Hilux based SUV, similar to a usdm 4runner.

FYI the 2.8 in this car makes 200 hp and 368 ft-lbs. Sounds perfect to me.

Gets a star because Pilatus.

I'll take it. Its a great frame.

I'll take the 4Runner, thanks. That looks like a Chinese knockoff Kia Sorrento.

Needs more Atlas.

well the hilux isn't exactlty a looker to start, but the fortuna is pretty tough.

over the 2.8? nope. I love the atlas, but i would take that 2.8 all day every day.

I mean if it's sold in the U.S., it will get a gas burner standard. That is where it needs more Atlas.

if it was sold in the US it would get the 3.6. Its a fine motor, its no ATLAS, but its okay. Frankly I think they should have been using the 4.3 ecotec III but who am I?

The 3.6 is a good motor, but it is a car motor. It's power curve is that of a car, which sucks for an SUV. Souce: drive something with car like power curve. I don't understand why they don't use the 4.3, I would even think that it probably weighs less.

To be fair, I looked up the curve for that motor and its not bad. The graph is misleading as it compresses the torque curve and expands the power curve but if I'm reading it right it looks like 220 ft-lbs is the lowest point on the graph, which isn't bad. i mean that was peak torque for the Cherokee's High output 4.0L I6

But for the 4.3:

its funny though, look at the scale for torque and HP. the SAE provides the data and GM massages it to send a message. with the LFX, they expand the hp scale to make it look very impressive and they compress the torque scale to flatten it out. With the 4.3 they flatten the HP curve so its closer to the torque curve and expand the torque curve for better resolution. Result: the truck engine looks more trucky and the car engine looks faster. The truth is that the torque curves on both are pretty close, though the extra torque on the 4.3 would be welcome.

An0ther big thing with the 4.3, is the extra torque comes nearly 1k RPM sooner. But yeah, it is funny how they make the 3.6 look really revvy.

I've tried to divine the numbers based on the graphs and put them on a graph of uniform scale
Red is LFX 3.6 ft-lbs, Purple is 4.3 Ft-lbs
Green is 4.3 hp, Blue is LFX 3.6 HP
You can see that, all things being equal, the LFX actually has a flatter torque curve but less of it from idle to redline. The hp curve for the 4.3 is better but it runs out of breath at high rpm where the LFX keeps pulling. Frankly, the 4.3 is a better motor in my opinion, unless you REALLY want that extra 15 hp right at the top of the rev range.
